   Deltona is the first city in Volusia County to earn the “Trailtown” designation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Greenways and Trails. Being an Official “Trailtown” means creating economic growth and growing local businesses, which in turn creates jobs. By maximizing the economic potential, turning Deltona’s Trailtown into a long-term destination, Deltona’s infrastructure in rural areas is well improved.

  Central Florida’s 2nd largest city is a focal point for the region’s multi-use, non-motorized trails which include the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop and the state’s Coast-to-Coast Trail. Opening our community to new opportunities enriches the economy and provides a sense of pride to our residents. With areas such as Audubon Park and the Lyonia Environmental Center, Deltona is well-versed in the art of protecting trails and the natural habitat of wildlife. As the community benefits from the natural history and activities in Deltona, they invest back into it, improving the quality of life and setting up a brighter future for the next generation.

Providence Boulevard Trail

   A feasibility study has been completed by the River-to-Sea Transportation Planning Organization for a shared use path along Providence Boulevard. This project has already been approved by the TPO and FDOT and the shared-use path will consist of a concrete trail connecting Howland Boulevard to Doyle Road (Thornby Park). Providence Trail will be constructed in segments and include alternate alignments to link civic facilities, parks, and schools. City Officials are very excited about this project and the residents of Deltona are too.

   Being a Trailtown is a step in the right direction. Not only will Deltona’s residents benefit, but visitors and residents from surrounding areas will also reap the benefits of an increased economy. All due to the ability of the City in providing a safe, environmentally friendly destination to relax and enjoy with friends and family.

In a February article of the Daytona Beach News Journal, written by Katie Kustura; Donald Morgan, a regional coordinator with the Greenways and Trails office said “The idea is to have connection to what the city has to offer, just like you would in a car.”

Volusia School District announces that Deltona High School and Pine Ridge High School will be part of a three high school program offering the Cambridge International Examinations, an internationally recognized academic course of study.

Bethune-Cookman University

Currently offering multiple free small business related courses through the Center for Entrepreneurship Economic Development.

Daytona State College

Currently planning a new building to the Deltona Campus, with educational programs specializing in Health Services and Manufacturing.

Volusia Economic Development and Educational Network

Currently working regionally with Seminole County on raising the training and skills of the southwest Volusia County labor force.

The Volusia partners are the cities of Deltona, DeBary, DeLand, and Orange City.

The educational partners are Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona State College, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Stetson University, and the Volusia County schools.

The effort is supported by Career Source Flagler/Volusia, SCORE, The Volusia County Department of Economic Development, and Florida Small Business Development Center at Daytona State College.
